Rebecca Buxton

Rebecca Buxton is a Lecturer in Social and Political Philosophy at the University of Bristol. She studied for her BA in Philosophy at King’s College London, and her MSc and DPhil at Oxford, before working as a Lecturer in Political Theory at the University of Cambridge. Her academic work focuses on citizenship and displacement, specifically the political and social rights of displaced people. Her co-authored book, The Way Out, which focuses on the lives of queer and trans refugees, will be published by University of California Press in January 2026.

Rebecca is currently at work on a new edition of her 2020 book titled The Philosopher Queens: The Lives and Legacies of Philosophy's Unsung Women, co-edited with Lisa Whiting, to be published in 2027 by Hackett (World English).
