Trevor Cox
Trevor Cox is a professor of acoustic engineering at the University of Salford and a past president of the UK’s Institute of Acoustics. A major strand of his research is room acoustics for intelligible speech and high-quality music production and reproduction (his diffuser designs can be found in rooms around the world). He is currently working on two projects: developing algorithms to allow big audio data to be interpreted by computers; and investigating future technologies for spatial audio in the home. For two decades he has been communicating science to the public, putting on shows for some 15,000 pupils in venues ranging from the Royal Albert Hall to the Royal Institution in London. He has also presented around two dozen documentaries for BBC radio and written feature articles for New Scientist, Sound on Sound and the Guardian.
