Teymuras Kurzchalia

Teymuras Kurzchalia earned his PhD in Moscow and has contributed to Nobel Prize–winning protein research. At the Max Planck Institute in Dresden, he identified cryptobiosis genes in nematode worms. He made 2023 headlines for his work reviving prehistoric permafrost worms.

Kurzchalia is at work, with co-author Jonathan Ewbank, on a book titled Hidden Life: The Science of Suspended Animation, to be published in 2028 by Penguin Press (UK) and MIT Press (US).
