Stephen Joseph
Stephen Joseph is a psychologist and business coach with a particular interest in human flourishing. A leading expert in positive psychology, he is a professor in the School of Education at the University of Nottingham, UK, where he was previously co-director of the Centre for Trauma, Resilience and Growth and an honorary consultant psychologist in psychotherapy. Born in Belfast, he grew up in Northern Ireland, leaving to study social psychology at the London School of Economics. He then gained a doctorate from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at Kings College London for his pioneering work on psychological trauma. He has published more than 200 academic papers and written or edited seven academic books, including the influential Positive Psychology in Practice (Wiley, 2004). The author of three popular books, on post-traumatic growth, authenticity and personal change, he is often asked to comment in the media on topical events relating to his work.
