Michael Marshall
Michael Marshall has a BA and MPhil in experimental psychology from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in science communication from Imperial College, London. From 2007 to 2014 he worked at New Scientist as, among other things, a reporter and environment news editor. In 2014 he was appointed deputy editor of the newly launched BBC Earth website. The following year he became acting editor, producing features that attracted around three million readers every month. Under his leadership, the site won a string of awards, including twice winning the Webby Award for Best Science Website. The Wall Street Journal technology correspondent Christopher Mims once described the site as ‘the best thing on the internet’. Michael maintains a lively Twitter presence and is experienced in other media, having made plenty of appearances on talk radio, as well as presenting and co-hosting many videos. In June 2017 he left the BBC to go freelance and to begin writing books. He has since edited a book on the science of human evolution for New Scientist, entitled Human Origins: 7 million years and counting (John Murray, 2018).
