Marianne Freiberger

Marianne Freiberger is the co-editor of Plus magazine, an online forum for the general public that publishes articles from the world's top mathematicians and science writers on topics as diverse as art, medicine, cosmology and sport. She has been editor-in-chief of the Mathscareers website and given presentations to mathematicians about how to communicate their work to a wider audience, and to journalists about how to deal with maths in the media. She has written for a variety of audiences including children, policymakers, learned societies and the wider general public, published in New Scientist and appeared on BBC Radio 4. Her articles have been chosen for The Best Writing on Mathematics 2011 and 2015 (Princeton University Press).  She has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences, including the International Congress of Mathematicians 2010 and TEDx Eastend 2015. Before branching out into science writing and communication, she did a PhD in pure mathematics (holomorphic dynamics) followed bya three-year postdoc at Queen Mary, University of London. Together with Rachel Thomas she has co-authored the popular maths books Numericon (Quercus, 2014) and Maths Squared (Quarto, 2016) and was editor on the book 50: Visions of Mathematics (Oxford University Press, 2014).
