J. Arvid Ågren

J. Arvid Ågren is an evolutionary biologist with appointments at the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic and the Evolutionary Biology Centre at Uppsala University. He is the author of The Gene’s-Eye View of Evolution (Oxford University Press, 2021), the first book-length treatment of the history of selfish-gene theory. He studied evolutionary biology at the universities of Edinburgh and Toronto and was a postdoc at Cornell and Harvard. He has given more than forty invited talks in ten countries across four continents, written for venues like Aeon and The Institute for Art and Ideas, and appeared on numerous podcasts including Sean Carroll’s ‘Mindscape’.

Ågren is currently at work on a book titled Survival Machine: The Life of Richard Dawkins – and the Ideas that Will Outlive Him, to be published in 2029 by Basic Books (World English).
