Andy Scott
Andy Scott is a conflict adviser in the UK government’s Stabilisation Unit. He originally trained as a historian, gaining a PhD from the University of Cambridge and going on to hold visiting fellowships at Yale University’s Center for International Strategic Studies. His first book, Allies Apart (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) examined Anglo-American relations during the Nixon years. In 2009, he joined the Cabinet Office where he worked on a range of international and domestic projects. He has since served as a diplomat in Libya and Sudan, and worked as a consultant to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Beyond his work, he enjoys exploring the world as much as he can, travelling to over 60 countries, often by the most uncomfortable means possible. Among other journeys he has taken the train home from Hong Kong and travelled overland from Cambridge to Cape Town. A naturalist at heart, he is also a keen painter. He lives in London, but still calls a small village in Suffolk home.
